Questions about custom Shopify apps
What is the difference between a custom app and a public app?+
A custom app is installed on one store and built only for that business. A public app can be installed by any merchant from the Shopify App Store and needs billing, onboarding and Shopify's review.
How long does a Shopify app take to build?+
A focused custom app usually takes 4–6 weeks. Public apps take 8–12 weeks, plus Shopify's review time. We give you a week-by-week plan after the scoping call.
Do I need Shopify Plus?+
Only to customise the checkout steps themselves. Admin tools, integrations, theme app blocks and most Shopify Functions work on every Shopify plan.
Who owns the app and the code?+
You do. The app is created in your Shopify Partner account and the code lives in your repository.
